How S.M.A.R.T. Goals Will Benefit Your Business
From marketing to sales to service delivery, a company’s success is based on a series of goals that need to be met. However, setting clear, actionable goals is easier said than done.
S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym that helps businesses of all sizes and industries set these actionable goals. It stands for: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely.
There are a few questions for each section of the acronym that you can answer to help you start building each step of your S.M.A.R.T. goals.
- S - What will you focus your efforts on for this goal? Try to answer: Who? What? When? Where? Why?
- M - What metrics are you going to use to determine that your goal has been met?
- A - Is this goal achievable with the time and resources available to it?
- R - What obstacles might you face during planning and execution of this goal? Is it realistic that your goal can overcome these challenges?
- T - What is a reasonable time frame for meeting your goal?
The difference between a S.M.A.R.T. goal and a non-S.M.A.R.T. goal is pretty glaring when they’re compared side by side. For example:
- Good Goal: Increase the number of network audits by three appointments a month using a campaign of a series of six emails sent to prospects over 45 days.
- Bad Goal: Get more network audits.
Realistically, no two businesses are alike. The S.M.A.R.T. goals that work for on MSP might not work as well for others. Here are a few alternative options that you can consider when building out S.M.A.R.T. goals that work for your MSP.
